What is holistic development?
Holistic development means emphasising the importance of the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of children, particularly in early childhood.
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) of the Australian Department of Education encourages educators to focus on holistic development instead of traditional academic milestones. In our childcare centre in Croydon, we focus on the connectedness of a child’s mind, body and spirit. We embrace real and authentic development opportunities.
How does holistic development work at Mini-Skool?
We ask open-ended questions Learning is a process of experimentation. If we ask open-ended questions, we encourage children to think of themselves. They explore trains of thought with cognitive thinking that would be otherwise blocked by a ‘yes or no’ answer. This allows children to explore and experiment.
We forge relationships that are strong and built on trust
It makes sense – children learn better from educators that they know and trust. If we build strong relationships with your child, we create a strong and safe community.
We identify your child’s interests
This is how we assist your child in discovering their identity and purpose in life. We help them connect to the natural world and form their own value system. This helps us inform our curriculum as we purse a child-led pedagogy that places them at the very core of all that we do. We take your child’s passion and turn it into learning opportunities.
We create an engaging and inviting environment
This is intuitive and crucial to everything we do. In a comfortable and safe environment, children thrive. They can learn at their own pace holistically as part of a ‘hands on’ approach from each and every adult they come into contact with. This methodology holds them in good stead for their future educational journey.
